Thornbury Castle
Thornbury Castle is a medieval fantasy come true, with 500 years of history woven into its character, a sumptuous castle that is truly fit for a King.

Indeed among the illustrious figures that have visited the turrets of this Tudor Palace, were King Henry VIII and his controversial second wife Anne Boleyn and guests of Thornbury Castle today can expect to be treated just as royally as those in the past.

Thornbury Castle resonates with centuries of history, surrounded by crenellated walls and set within historic parkland, the castle dates back to 1510. The exterior of Thornbury Castle incorporates a bold tower with narrow arrow slits and the fortified manor house with intricate oriel windows. Step through the castle’s solid oak doors and the sense of history is in evidence with original tapestries, suits of armour and fabulous oak panelled galleries and public areas.

All of the sumptuous classic bedchambers are fabulously atmospheric each with their own unique features. Most come with luscious four-poster or classic coronet beds and period furnishings that extenuate the original features of stone walls, ornate ceilings and roaring fireplaces.  For that extra special occasion there is a choice to upgrade to the deluxe bedchambers which offer an even greater feel of grandeur and opulence.  Both the classic and deluxe bedchambers tastefully intermingle authentic medieval charm with all modern comforts, luxuries and welcoming touches.

Thornbury Castle is also renowned for its cuisine, which includes fabulous traditional favourites such as treacle tart, butterscotch pudding and roasts fit for a medieval feast. There are three dining areas, all maintaining the castle’s historic air with original fireplaces, oak panelling and ancestral portraits.

Within the castle grounds are the oldest Tudor gardens in England , a handsomely romantic setting where in years gone by, Kings have walked with Queens and Knights have courted ladies-in-waiting.

Thornbury Castle is situated near Bristol, close to the border with Wales and is perfectly placed for exploring the Wye Valley and border towns such as Hay-on-Wye, as well as the historic town of Bath and the graceful countryside of the Cotswolds .
