Better known as the V & A, this museum houses a fabulous collection of decorative art works in 145 eclectic galleries.
Victoria and Albert Museum
The museum was named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Queen had laid the foundation stone of the museum in 1899. Today it houses treasures from all over the world in a space that, over six floors, covers 11km. Over four million objects are kept, from Chinese ceramics and portraits, medieval antiquities, Indian art, Asian and Islamic art, a costume gallery and a collection of European stained glass windows.
Today the museum ranks amongst the most important of its kind in terms of decorative arts worldwide. The National Art Library inside the museum is an important documentary and reference library.
There is a late view programme which is open until 10pm on a Wednesday and one Friday every month, with a range of social events.
