The National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait GallerySt Martin's Place Trafalgar Square, Co. Greater London

The gallery houses a fine collection of ‘mug shots’ of the key historical figures, notorious or otherwise, dating from Elizabethan times to the present day.

Situated at the rear of the National Gallery , the Portrait Gallery features pictures of Kings and Queens and the Great and the Good throughout British history. It is an excellent way of putting faces to the names that you will hear about whilst visiting Britain’s historic attractions.

The Gallery’s collection also gives a fascinating insight into the period costumes as well as illustrating how artists have developed the technique of portrait painting and houses an excellent collection of contemporary photographic portraits.
