Tenby Museum & Art Gallery
Tenby has its own museum and art gallery situated on the headland of Castle Hill, outlining the town's maritime and social history as well as works from celebrated artists with local connections, Augustus John and his sister Gwen.
It also features an exhibit and mementos from the farcical French invasion of Pembrokeshire. In 1797 during the Napoleonic Wars a band of 1400 French mercenaries led by an American named William Tate landed near Fishguard only to be captured by Welshwomen armed with pitchforks.
The story of this ill-fated, ill planned and ill executed incursion is told in detail at the museum.
