Swan Hotel

A classic 15th century coaching Inn, the Swan Hotel, is located in the heart of the historic Cathedral town of Wells, superbly placed for exploring the West Country.

The Swan Hotel is perfectly located in the very heart of charming Wells.  This tiny town is dominnated by the magnificent cathedral and neighbouring Bishop's Palace which stand directly opposite the hotel.  The Swan is just a short walk from the town square and high street where you will find an array of traditional pubs, restaurants, quaint gift-shops and boutiques.  Wells is just a short drive from Glastonbury, is just 40minutes south of Bath and offers an excellent base for onward travel towards Devon and Cornwall.  The guest car park is accessible through the coaching archway.

Inside the Swan Hotel has been lovingly restored and refurbished but retains an authentic atmosphere of history and tradition.  The cosy public spaces are complemented by the warmest of welcomes from the front of house team.

Accommodation at the Swan is of the highest quality.  The 49 ensuite bedrooms have also undergone extensive refurbishment to ensure modern comforts and facilities whilst retaining original features and character.  Many of the rooms are furnished with elegant antique furninshings, some with four-poster beds and those rooms to the front of the hotel gain views over the cathedral the green opposite.  Each room offers as standard complimentary hospitality tray, colour televisions and wifi internet access.

The Swan Hotel has a reputation for good food and drink and the restaurant is popular with both locals and residents alike.  Since his appointment in 2002, head-chef Paul Mingo-West has gained notoriety and secured a fine-dining award as well as a two AA rosette award.  His seasonally changing menus centre around traditional cooking with a modern twist and he uses the freshest local produce in all of his creations.  The restaurant provides an intimate dining atmosphere whilst in the summer months guests can also opt to dine al fresco in the garden room, walled garden or in the front garden area which offer views over the cathedral.

The Swan is a quality hotel of modern comfort which hasn't forgotten its rich history.  Pleasantly set in this small and charming town, the Swan is off-the-beaten-track but still offers much to see within a short drive.
