Built in 1650 as a coaching inn, referred to in Wordsworth's poem 'The Waggoner', and stayed in by Sir Walter Scott, the Swan Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in the Lake District. The small, historic, whitewashed building nestles cosily and fittingly against the contrasting background of lush green hills and fells. The atmosophere inside is one of true Cumbrian welcome; relaxing, informal and unstuffy it maintains that feel of local countryside inn.
