Shakespeare Hotel
The Shakespeare is a good old-fashioned Inn, whose Tudor façade has graced the centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon since the days of Shakespeare himself.
The Shakespeare hotel stands right in the very heart of Stratford Upon Avon overlooking one of the main thoroughfare's and rubbing shoulders with an array of small shops, boutiques an eateries. All of the town's main attractions are within a few minutes' stroll of the hotel including, the pleasant greens on the banks of the Avon, the Royal Shakspeare Theatre and the heritage site at Shakespeare's Birthplace. Stratford's railway station is less than a mile from the hotel and there is on-site parking available for a small fee for those travelling by car.
The splendid black and white timber fronted building which is now home to the Shakespeare Hotel, was originally a collection of houses, until it became a hostelry in 1637. During the Civil War, the pub was nicknamed the Shakespeare after Stratford's most famous son. The name stuck and the hotel has now been welcoming visitors to Stratford, with charm and hospitality for over 300 years. The Shakespeare oozes character and charm and its long history is evident in its unique atmosphere from the moment you walk through the doors, with low beamed ceilings, slate tiles and open fire places in winter time.
Winding staircases and creaking floor boards guide you to the Shakespeare's guest bedrooms where the overnight accommodation is exactly what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The recently refurbished rooms offer guests all the modern comforts whilst maintaining their historic charm, many with period features, fittings and some with four poster beds. Each of the rooms is named after one of the great Bards most famous plays or characters.
Good food and drink are a priority at the Shakespeare. The newly refurbished Othello Bar and Brasserie offer a contemporary but informal dining experience with the option to eat al fresco on the terrace in summer months. The menu is international with an array of dishes but using quality local ingredients and is perfect for lunches or evening meals. The Quill Bar and Lounge, located at the front of the hotel, is a popular meeting place for both residents and locals. Cool in the summer months and cosy in winter with log fires and protruding oak beams, the Quill bar is the perfect place to enjoy a fine pint of cask ale, a cocktail or traditional afternoon tea complete with homemade scones, clotted cream and freshly cut sandwiches.
The Shakespeare is located in the very centre of Stratford, with most of the town's sights and attractions within walking distance and is a charming place from which to explore the surrounding area.
