On this extensive tour you’ll visit many of Britain’s historic cities, famous landmarks and iconic scenery, stopping at London, Bath, Stratford, York, Edinburgh and the Lake District.

Start off your trip in London where you can see some of the famous sights like Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Winchester Abbey, hit the shops and markets, catch a show in the West End, or shop ‘til you drop!

From London, head west out of the city towards Salisbury Plain to take a look at the famous standing stones of Stonehenge. Then its on to the historic city of Bath wear you can amble around its splendid colonnaded Royal Crescents and stylish designer shops, landmarks like Pulteney Bridge and visit its famous Roman Baths, over 2000 years old.

From Bath head to the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford, via the idyllic English countryside of the Cotswolds, through the ancient Cathedral city of Cirencester, the hub of this quaint rural retreat. Before Oxford, why not stop off in the little village of Woodstock to visit Blenheim Palace, a fabulous Baroque mansion and the place where Winston Churchill was born. Once in Oxford you can visit some of this academic city’s famous college quads and take a punt along the river, before visiting another famous Briton’s birthplace.

About an hour’s drive north of Oxford is Stratford-upon-Avon, the town where William Shakespeare was born and where he is buried. Here you can visit the Birthplace of the Bard and numerous other locations associated with Britain’s foremost playwright. From Stratford, head to Chester, taking the scenic route weaving in and out of the borders between England and Wales through the sweeping slopes of the Welsh Marches where you could choose to detour to the mountain peaks of Snowdonia in north Wales or continue to Chester.

A timber fronted town, Chester is famous for its sense of history and excellent shops with its fabulous Tudor Rows and its ancient Roman Walls echoing of Chester’s past as the largest Roman settlement in Britain. And from one former Roman city to another – York.

York has a rich and unique heritage in Britain where it’s Roman, Saxon and Viking past can all be experienced within its medieval walls. York was the chief settlement of the Vikings in Britain and its ancient Gothic Cathedral is the largest and most spectacular in northern Europe.

After soaking up the historic atmosphere of York, take a long country drive through James Heriot Country; the Yorkshire Dales, before arriving at one of Britain’s most fabulous beauty spots - the Lake District. Here you are perfectly placed to explore the atmospheric beauty of the lakes and fells that have inspired such Lakeland writers as William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

From the Lake District you could head further north into ‘Bonnie Scotland’ to the historic capital of Edinburgh overlooked by its famous castle. If you’re able to extend your stay you could explore Scotland further with a trip into the highlands, it won’t go unrewarded!
