An austere 15th Century tower house set on a rocky outcrop overlooking a windswept moorland landscape. Inside Smailholm Tower now houses an exhibition of tapestries and costume dolls relating to Scott's Minstrelsy of the Scottish Borders. The road up is a slightly 'off road' drive through farmland which was once owned by Scott's grandfather.
