This stunning country mansion house is nestled at the heart of 2,400 acres of rolling wooded land on the edges of the Grampians. Pittodrie House provides a peaceful, romantic getaway.Though Pittodrie house dates back to 1480 it was raised to the ground during the covenanting period and much of it was rebuilt in 1850 by Victorian architect Archibald Simpson.
After a brief drive up the winding private road through the estate you approach this beautifully classic highland country house. Entering Pittodrie House you can't help but be impressed by the carved wood panels in reception and the plush ash wood furnished drawing room with deep Persian rugs and comfy couches. An ideal place for a relaxing read while taking in the mountain views and the warmth of the log fire.
All around the house is furnished with grand oil paintings and intricate wood carvings that are original features introduced in the late Victorian era and in some parts of Pittodrie house, the original 14th Century stone masonry can be seen.
The bedrooms are individually furnished some with antique Victorian and Edwardian features others more with more modern fittings and a touch of contemporary elegance, including some with sprawling four poster beds. Each room is spacious and airy with equally roomy bathrooms and wonderful sweeping views of the rolling hills and the mountain 'Bennachie', which is within the Pittodrie estate.
Walking this highland beauty spot would take around 8 hours but a more leisurely stroll can be had in Pittodrie's wonderful walled gardens. The walls and unregimented holly hedges add a slightly wild and natural look while keeping out the wind. On summer days the gardens provide a perfect suntrap, ideal for a peaceful, romantic interlude. The herb garden located here serves the hotel's award winning dining room, where you can taste the finest in traditional Scottish dishes made up from locally sourced produce.
