Melvin House was built in 1883, originally a home commissioned by the wealthy John Ritchie Findley who founded Scotlands national newspaper, "The Scotsman". Since then it has been used as a college residence and later by the National Health Servcie but has now been transformed to a wonderful Town House Hotel. The elegant public rooms, including the gallaried library, have been carefully restored to their former Victorian splendour and there are a number of antique pieces on show throughout. The resident's bar offers the perfect retreat from the hubbub of city lifein which to enjoy a morning coffee or tranquil nighcap.

The 22 spacious guest bedrooms each offer unique aspect and all offer en-suite bathroom facilties. They are tastefully decorated in mellow colours and traditionally furnished to a high standard. Many of the rooms boast stunning views of either Edinburgh castle to the front or the Kingdom of Fife to the rear.
