Mull, the reputable gem of Scotland ’s Western Isles with its picture postcard landscape of rugged heather swept hills and wonderful mountain scenery, cascading with streams filling deep dale lochs.
Peace and tranquillity are in abundance, with a population of just over 2,500 and a handful of tiny towns, the main one being the pretty painted fishing town of Tobermory in the north of the island. Historically Mull was controlled by the fierce clan Maclean whose power base was the sea facing fortress of Duart Castle guarding the entrance to Duart Bay.

Close by is the more tranquil Torosay castle and opulent gardens to explore. The many footpaths and walkways around the island make it easy to explore more hidden gems of ancient structures, standing stones and cairns and the more natural beauty of the island. The island is excellent for nature spotting of all sorts. A variety of birdlife can be seen around the coastal areas and sea lochs while in the islands rugged mountainous central belt, birds of prey swoop and red and fallow deer wander. Salmon and trout populate the islands rivers and lochs while the seas around Mull are one of the most important European habitats for whales and dolphins and you can often spot minke whales, harbour porpoises, bottlenose dolphins and grey seals at play.
