Dating back over 450 years, Fernie Castle Hotel offers a unique historic accommodation experience, excellently located for touring the Kingdom of Fife and St Andrews area.
Fernie Castle Hotel is delightfully and picturesquely located, nestling at the heart of 17 ares of wooded parkland on the banks of its own loch. The Castle is situated in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife offering the perfect location from which to enjoy quaint fishing villages, an abundance of local golf courses (including the world famous St Andrews) and to explore Dumfermline and Loch Leven with ties to Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. Whilst enjoying a true countryside setting, Fernie Castle is still highly accessible and Edinburgh can be reached in just over an hour by car.
Parts of Fernie Castle itself date back over 450 years and, having been passed down through generations of Lords of Fernie and Balfour for many centuries before becoming a hotel, it holds a real aura of history. The building is an impressive sight, climbing four storeys high in a clearing in the woods, overlooking peaceful lawns and with a turreted spire at one end. Inside the public areas maintain an historic charm and genuine Scottish atmosphere with tartan themes, traditional furnishings and the odd coat of arms standing to attention.
All of the 20 guest bedrooms at Fernie Castle are individually designed and appointed and come fully equipped with all the modern amenities expected by today's traveller. There are three room-types to choose from catering for every occasion; “Squires and Ladies” are the standard rooms offering quaint and cosy accommodation whilst the “Kings and Queens” rooms offer a more lavish ambiance, many with grand four-posters, themed décor, claw-foot bath-tubs and other unique features. For something extra special, the “Monarch Suites” provide traditionally finished spacious and luxurious accommodation with comfortable mini-lounge areas and an array of additional “touches” to make your stay extra special.
There are a number of drinking and dining options at Fernie Castle. The atmospheric, stone vaulted “Keep Bar” dates back to 1530 and offers a range of alcoholic and soft beverages along with a pleasant and unique environment in which to take light snacks and bar meals. The Wallace Lounge, located in the turret tower is perfect for a cosy after-dinner drink, whilst there is also a comfortable guest lounge on the first floor ideal for relaxing in peaceful surroundings. Formal dining is available in the opulent setting of the Auld Alliance restaurant, decorated in mellow colours with traditional furnishing and an array of extra touches such as fresh flowers, glowing candles, ornate feature mirror and the low-hanging Georgian chandelier. The menu offers a range of traditional meat and fish dishes prepared with the finest and often locally sourced produce.
Fernie Castle Hotel offers a unique and historic accommodation experience, located in a region which itself is steeped in Scottish history and provides an excellent base for touring.
