Falls of Lora Hotel (Connel, near Oban)
This fine Victorian hotel, built in 1886 with later extension, overlooks Loch Etive, with Oban and many attractions nearby.
The Falls of Lora Hotel is located on the beautiful West Coast of Scotland , overlooking the tranquil waters of Loch Etive and just 5 miles north of the bustling port of Oban. The area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and Oban "Gateway to the Isles" is known as a lively sea port offering boat trips to the Isles of Mull , Iona , Staffa or simply to see the rich abundance of wildlife found off the coast. It is of course, also home to the famous Oban malt whisky distillery. The hotel is easily accessible, situated on the main A85 route in to Oban.
The hotel is set in a small collection of well-kept gardens whilst over the other side of the road there is a larger 2 acre loch-side garden where you can sometimes see find locals launching boats on the loch. The Falls of Lora itself is a charming bustle of Victorian architecture with the main building dating back to 1886 whilst the newer wing was added in the 1970s. The public spaces inside are tradtionally styled with interesting wall hangings and some antique pieces of furniture. A comfortable lounge area with its jumble of easy chairs and sofas in front of an open fire is the perfect spot for relaxing after a day of walking or sightseeing. The Falls of Lora Hotel is owner-run and operated so a personal service and warm welcome are guaranteed.
There are 30 guest bedrooms at the Falls of Lora Hotel. Many of the rooms are individually decorated and styled and all offer a range of facilities including hospitality trays, colour televisions and direct dial telephones. Many of the rooms in the older parts of the hotel are particularly large and have feature beds, lounge areas, balconies and views but it should be noted that some of their bathrooms have baths only with no shower attachments. Rooms in the newer wing are more compact but offer the baths with shower attachments.
Food and drink are important at the Falls of Lora Hotel. The unique cocktail bar and bistro restaurant, with its open log-fire, offers an informal, relaxed atmosphere for dining. The kitchen is run by Scottish chefs who have carefully selected the finest local produce to put together a varied menu, which is complemented by a daily specials board and extensive wine list. The bar is well-stocked and as well as cocktails also offers over 100 varieties of malt whisky to choose from. The formal dining room is only available for group bookings of 10 or more guests.
The Falls of Lora offers a small family-run hotel, brimming with natural character and located in a beautiful, loch-side setting but close to the lively town of Oban.
