Overlooking the boats bobbing in the bay and Portree's brightly painted houses on the harbour front, the hotel commands a beautiful picturesque setting, yet beyond this are the imposing black ridges of the Cuillin Hills making a magnificent sight that is hard to beat.

The hotel was built around 1870 as a hunting lodge for Lord MacDonald of the Isles and though it has had more recent renovations great lengths have been gone to, in order to maintain its authentic highland charm. The resident's in particular lounge, with its elegant old-fashioned leather sofas, provides a welcome retreat in which to unwind in front of the open log fire.

The bedrooms are spacious and each is individually decorated, furnished with modern fittings and themed with traditional highland colours. The bathrooms are generously portioned and serviced to a high standard offering quality and comfort. Cuillin Hills also has excellent disabled facilities.

The award winning restaurant at Cuillin Hills offers quality service and high class cuisine taking the very best of fresh local produce and creating enticing treats from ever changing menus, the highland game and fresh seafood are a speciality. Here candle lit tables with views over the bay add to the enjoyment of fine dining. Food is also served in the bar area with an excellent menu cooked to an equally high standard.
