Cill a'Rubha (Isle of Colonsay)
The cottage is at Uragaig and faces directly across the ancient chapel-site of Cill a' Rubha (pron: "kil-a-roo"). The outstanding pamoramic views are overwhelming and in the complete absence of light pollution, the night sky is quite breathtaking. The magnificent wrap-around sundeck provides a choice of shade or sunbathing throughout all the hours of daylight.
This modern and fully-equipped cottage (sleeps 4-5 adults) is heavily insulated and designed for sabbatical and study use as well as family holidays. Out of season, it is an ideal base for botanists, geologists and ornithologists. Cill a' Rubha is also suited to Family Historians as there are various resources are available in transcription.
Uragaig is an ancient marine platform 150 feet above sea level and backed by dramatic cliffs. It is a place of outstanding natural interest. It is a very peaceful location encompassed by natural beauty. Cill a'Rubha Cottage is remote, and the single track road leading to it is not suited to constant coming and going.
A hallway, cloakroom and large open-plan living room and kitchen are on the ground floor. The bright and roomy kitchen is fully equipped (including dishwasher). French doors lead out onto a generous raised deck. In addition to central heating, a "coal-effect" gas fire is provided.
There is a fully equipped study on the same floor. A spiral stair leads upwards from the living area, and a conventional stair leads downwards. A twin and double bedroom plus bathroom are all upstairs. In the basement there is a shower bathroom and utility area.
We regret this house is not suitable for young children. Pets are permitted with advance permission. Smoking is not permitted.
Bed linen and towels are provided. Electricity is not included and charged by meter reading on arrival/departure.
