Barra
Barra is a tiny island and is the most southerly of the inhabited Outer Hebrides . It is famed for its beauty boasting beaches, hills, machair and moor. Historically the island was the stronghold of the Clan MacNeil. Barra is accessible by ferry, which arrives at the main settlement, Castlebay. Barra is home to one of the most unusual airports in the world; Aircraft land on the beach at Cockle Strand in between tides with the runway disappearing beneath the waves at high tide.
