A place for those who love horses and royal splendour, the Royal Mews are the official royal stables at Buckingham Palace and make for a wonderful addition to a visit to this famous royal paddock.

The Royal Mews were the storage accommodation for the royal family's horses and carriages since 1760 when George III moved his complete carriage collection over from Charing Cross to the Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Mews are the finest working stables in Britain, caring for 34 horses including the famous Windsor Greys and housing the selection of opulent coaches they pull on ceremonial occasions. Among the fabulous coaches are the glass coach used for royal weddings and foreign ambassadors and the highlight of the exhibit, the opulent gold coach built for George III in 1762 and last used in the Queens Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 which are on permantent display. The mews can be visited for free with the 'London Pass'.
