Penally Abbey

Prices From $285 per room
Quite simply one of the most charming country houses you could come across, Penally is rich in historic character, personality and warm welcomes and is set in one of the most beautiful southern stretches of the Pembrokeshire Coast .

The hotel occupies the site of a 6th century abbey set within 5 acres of lush wooded gardens with magnificent sea views and enjoys an air of tranquil serenity befitting its monastic past.

Penally Abbey was built in the 1790s and historic remnants can be seen all around this Grade II listed property, from the wistful ruined medieval chapel in the gardens, to the rare Strawberry Hill Gothic arches over the doorways and Penally's furnishings have been carefully chosen to blend in with the period character of the building.

The fabulously appointed bedrooms are also fitted with antique and period furniture and most are lavishly decadent four-poster suites with spacious attractively laid out bathrooms. All bedrooms are fastidiously looked after with exceptional attention to detail.

The food is fabulous yet unpretentious, again mirroring the charm of the hotel, and has won much praise and accolades. The restaurant is wonderfully graceful and intimate; dinner is a romantic candlelit affair with tempting seasonal delicacies. Penally's graceful yet unfussy atmosphere is a reflection of its extremely genial hosts who contribute hugely to the hotels success.

Penally's facilities include a small heated pool and games room and right on the doorstep is Tenby 's 18-hole championship links course. Though you may wish to settle for the more relaxing pursuits of watching the sunset from the garden terrace, sipping cocktails and soaking up Penally Abbey's peaceful charm.
