National Botanical Garden of Wales, Carmarthen, Co. Carmarthenshire
Opened in 2000, the National Botanic Garden is Wales ’ newest attraction, covering 150 acres of 18th Century landscaped garden it is twice the size of Kew Gardens in London .
Often described as the breadbasket of Wales, Carmarthen is the ideal location for the countries National Botanic Garden. Set in the former regency estate around Middleton Hall in the gentle Tywi Valley, the gardens are set to expand to a further 400 acres in the future promising to be a dedicated centre for biodiversity, horticulture and leisure.
Inside the National Botanic Garden of Wales
Current features include a delicate Japanese Garden, named ‘Sui Ou Tei’ – Cherry & Daffodil’ aiming to blend the cultures of Japan and Wales, an impressive double walled garden, intriguing and ingenuous water sculptures and the garden’s centrepiece the Great Glasshouse the world’s largest single span glasshouse containing examples of the world’s ecosystems from places like southern California, the Mediterranean basin and Australia.
In its first year the National Botanic Garden attracted some 250,000 visitors, as it continues to grow promises to draw ever bigger crowds and the locals will love telling you that it’s bigger than any garden in England !
