Why did you join myguideBritain?

I love to visit new places around the world but have always looked forward to coming back home to Britain, and especially to Scotland.  It gives me great pleasure to be able to bring other people to experience the magnificent scenery and understand some of the history of Britain.

What is your favourite part of Britain?

Orkney must be one of my most favourite places in Britain. The Orkney Islands have so much to offer. You can enjoy a slower pace of life but still have all the modern conveniences and are never to far from good restaurants. There is always plenty of things to see and do or you can just relax..

What is your favourite visitor attraction?

Historical buildings and engineering masterpieces. I like to explore castles and check out the history of the past residents! Archaeological sites and museums are also very interesting but one of my favourite Visitor Attractions is the Falkirk Wheel - a wonderful piece of engineering.

What is your favourite British food and restaurant in Britain?

Seafood. I'll try anything! There are very few fish dishes that I don't like and the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar & Restaurant at Cairndow in Argyll is the place to eat it!

Which is your favourite pub in Britain?

My local, but no-one else would want to go there.

Where do you like to shop?

Edinburgh or Glasgow. They have everything from large chain stores to small individual 'boutique' shops if you are looking for something different.

Favourite getaway in Britain?

The British landscape can change rapidly within a short distance. You can be in the centre of a city and 45 minutes later, be out in the countryside. It is always a good idea to have a good map to help you on your travels.

Given your experience what advice would you give to people coming to Britain?

Be prepared for exciting cities and beautiful countryside scenery but also be prepared for all types of weather
