The Shakespeare is a good old-fashioned Inn, whose Tudor façade has graced the centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon since the days of Shakespeare himself. This splendid black and white timber fronted building was originally a collection of houses, until the Shakespeare became a hostelry in 1637. During the Civil War, the pub was nicknamed the Shakespeare after Stratford’s most famous son. The name stuck and the Shakespeare has been welcoming visitors to Stratford, with charm and hospitality for over 300 years. The Shakespeare offers excellent accommodation in recently refurbished rooms, which offer guests all the modern comforts in a traditional setting. The hotel’s facilities include the award winning David Garrick Restaurant, whose mix of traditional dishes with modern influences, using the finest local ingredients, have won acclaim and a highly regarded reputation for fine food. The Quill Bar and Lounge, located at the front of the hotel, is a popular meeting place, cool in the summer months and cosy in winter with log fires and protruding oak beams. Here you can enjoy a fine pint of cask ale, a cocktail or traditional afternoon tea. The Shakespeare is located in the very centre of Stratford, with most of the town’s sights and attractions within walking distance and is a charming place from which to explore the surrounding area. |
