The Crown at Whitebrook is a gastronomic hideaway enveloped by the wooded slopes of the Wye Valley in the borderlands of Wales and England. The Crown is among Wales’ new offering of ‘restaurants with rooms’, that has been attracting a steady stream of interest from discerning diners for many years, to this little hideaway. The Crown’s chef and owners come with a long line of experience of working in top international hotels in London, Cape Town and Atlanta and bring that to this stylish but unpretentious establishment. The restaurant provides imaginative dishes created using classic French disciplines with such examples as Char grilled Sirloin of Beef with Glazed Shin presse and Oxtail Tortellini or Baked Saddle of Rabbit with Savoy Cabbage, and lentil and vanilla jus. And such fine food is well complimented by a selection of fine wines. The bedrooms are equally imaginative, attractively decorated with contemporary styling and fitted with all the usual luxuries and facilities. The Crown is an excellent base for exploring the delightful Wye Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with plenty of outdoor diversions from walking to fishing, while the wistful ruins of Tintern Abbey are also close by. |
