An elegant Georgian manor house, Congham Hall is set in gracious gardens and orchards, a few miles from the Queens residence of Sandringham in Norfolk. Congham Hall is laid out with Palladian elegance, yet retains an intimate atmosphere of a treasured family home. In the public areas, light and classically decorated sitting rooms are furnished with log fires, fine ceramics and broad French windows opening out onto carefully manicured lawns. Up a gracious winding staircase, the bedrooms at Congham Hall are all individually decorated to a very high standard with luxurious furnishings, sumptuous beds and the finest fabrics. The décor is in keeping with the period character of the hotel, as fresh as an English garden, with mellow colours and floral prints. The award winning Orangery Restaurant is renowned for its outstanding quality of food and service, offering imaginative dishes featuring local specialties such as Cromer Crab, Norfolk pheasant, Kings Lynn shrimps or home smoked fish and herbs and vegetables from Congham Hall’s gardens. A stroll through the Herb Gardens will uncover over 700 different herbs, including more than 50 varieties of mint, speciality vegetable plots and an orchard of fruit all hand picked for the kitchens. Homemade preserves and honey together with freshly baked bread and cakes make a delicious addition to breakfasts and afternoon teas. The restaurant itself is a light and airy affair with large French windows leading to the terrace and the lawns beyond, where you can watch the sun set over a classic English landscape. A walk through the grounds of Congham Hall takes you though 30 acres of parkland and colourful, typically English gardens of fragrant lavender and neat green lawns, pastureland where horses graze and woodland where wild flowers flourish. Bordering the grounds is the village pitch where you can idly watch that most quintessential of English country pastimes, a game of cricket. Norfolk is a country setting that is much favoured by Royalty who summer at nearby Sandringham Palace and if it’s good enough for the Queen, then it’s good enough for you! |
