A stylish and elegant Georgian Town house in the heart of Hereford, Castle House has won numerous awards for its service, comfort, cuisine and accessibility.
A Grade II listed building, Castle House has been graciously restored and brought up to date with sophisticated but unpretentious interiors and a light and soothing décor of mellow softly lit colours. The spacious reception area is marked by a graceful open staircase and is adorned with fresh seasonal flowers.
Each of the bedrooms are individually designed and are named after historic figures with links to Hereford. Though sizes vary, all are elegantly decorated, with plush furnishings, rich fabrics and fresh flowers and all come equipped with the very latest home conveniences including a refrigerator, video player and hi-fi system and luxury bathrooms, while a decanter of cherry awaits guests. The bedrooms include sumptuous four-poster beds and the hotel a suite specifically designed for guests with mobility difficulties with fully equipped bathrooms with power showers, king sized beds with electric mattress and wheelchair wide doorways.
The public areas include stylish but homely lounge and sitting room. The refined but relaxed bar is well stocked with a wide selection of malt whiskies, unusual liqueurs and fine cognacs perfect for pre-dinner drinks before adjourning to the elegantly debonair restaurant. The La Rive restaurant is Hereford’s finest and has won praise and accolades for its exciting European styled menu, which uses the finest locally sourced produce, from the owners’ Herefordshire farm estates. Special dietary requirements can be catered for.
Castle House opens out onto a private garden terrace overlooking the moat that once protected Hereford’s Castle, a perfect place for a spot of lunch or afternoon teas in the summer as you peacefully watch the white swans glide along the waters.
There’s much of interest in and around Hereford to explore. There is of course Hereford Cathedral, which houses ‘Mappa Mundi’ a medieval map of the world, the bibliophile Mecca of Hay-on-Wye and the gracious countryside of the Welsh Marches. |
