Built in the 19th Century, Holbeck Ghyll was once a hunting lodge of Lord Lonsdale, at the time one of the richest men in Britain, made famous for his links with boxing. Holbeck Ghyll is a picturesque house with baroque style steep roofs and slate and stone walls clad in ivy, sitting in sweeping gardens overlooking some of the most spectacular scenery in the Lake District.

Holbeck Ghyll has a peaceful, soothing atmosphere with elegant lounges of deep sumptuous armchairs presenting inspiring views across the gardens and out to the lake.
Holbeck Ghyll has a selection of well-proportioned rooms both in the main house and in a number of renovated cottages in the grounds. The bedrooms are all tastefully furnished with period charm and come with niceties like decanters of sherry and fresh flowers as well as the usual facilities you would naturally expect. Most of the bedrooms also have magnificent views of Lake Windermere.
The hotel boasts a Michelin Star restaurant, set in oak panelled surroundings with stunning views, which offers a subtle blend of French and English cuisine from a frequently changing menu using the finest of fresh local produce, while the wine list offers variety and quality. It’s a memorable setting for fine dining and Holbeck Ghyll has won praise and accolades for it. The adjoining Terrace Restaurant opens out onto the patio for lunch or early evening dinner on lazy summer days and mild summer nights.
