Situated just outside the historic university town of Oxford, the Belfry is a genial well-appointed hotel with all the essential comforts for the modern traveller.
The Oxford Belfry is a large, modernly appointed hotel, set in 17 acres around two wonderfully landscaped, floral courtyards. The Belfry’s façade of mock Tudor is attractively clad in ivy, while the inner courtyards are soothing, secluded and quite a suntrap in the summer. Reception areas are well spaced and laid out and adjoined by a comfortable lounge, perfect for teas or coffees and a flick through the morning papers.
The Belfry has a selection of sizable rooms, light and airy in their décor and larger suites, some with ground floor patios out onto the courtyard, half tester beds and comfortable lounge areas. All rooms have well-proportioned bathrooms with modern walk in showers and some have lavish Jacuzzi bath tubs. The Belfry also has excellent wheel chair access throughout and well laid out ground floor rooms.
The hotel’s sizable restaurant is a pleasant and polite affair, with a wide choice of modern British cuisine and a varied selection of wines. On mild summer evenings, the courtyard is also open for dining and hosts the occasional barbeque. Bistro style food is also available in the light and pleasant bar area and the bar itself is well stocked with cognacs, cigars and ports to enjoy an after dinner tipple.
The Oxford Belfry also boasts a glass roofed heated indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and sauna and has two all weather tennis courts and a croquet lawn.
Just ten minutes drive away is Oxford, famous for its historic university, picturesque college quads and gondola trips along this slender and sedate part of the upper Thames River. Also close by is Blenheim Palace, hugely impressive in it’s grandeur, with historic connections with Britain’s premier statesman; Winston Churchill who is buried nearby.
