Formally owned by the Queen, Crewe Hall is a magnificent Jacobean Hall set in 35 acres of parkland, with fabulous period features, and a real aura of the ‘Lord of the Manor.’ The building dates back to 1615 and was the family home of the Lord of Crewe for generations until, without an heir, the estate passed to the Crown in 1936. Crewe Hall’s list of illustrious guests and visitors include King George V in 1913, The Queen and Prince Philip in 1955 and during World War two Crewe Hall hosted German prisoners of war, those of high rank and nobility, of course. The grand gabled façade of Crewe Hall is dominated by the tall tower, itself a local landmark. As you walk into the reception hall original features of intricately crafted marble and mahogany via for attention. Heraldic lions and finials of marble greet you, and the fabulous Marble Hall invites you to marvel at the stunning Jacobean galleries of carved mahogany and its hammer beam roof. This stately theme is carried throughout the hall with historic flourishes and décor in keeping with the period, with original oak panelling and ornate plasterwork ceilings in the cosy parlours. Like many stately homes of the Jacobean period, Crewe Hall has its own consecrated Chapel, where its Catholic owners could take mass away from persecution. Crewe Hall’s Chapel boasts a wealth of decorative features, a stain glass oriel window, and figures in bronze and carved alabaster. The historic theme is continued in Crewe Hall’s opulent four-poster suites, decorated with exquisite period furnishings, while in the west wing of the hotel there are more spacious modernly appointed rooms with up to date stylish fittings and invitingly large beds. Crewe Hall has two restaurants to chose from that reflect the historic and modern elements to the hotel. In the older section of the hall are the classic surroundings of the award winning Ranulph restaurant serving a sumptuous daily menu of modern British cuisine. Alternatively there is the relaxed setting of the Brasserie and stylish revolving bar.
