Set among the flat lands and river meadows of ‘little Holland’ the Inn at the Elm Tree is a 21st Century Inn with traditional values.
The lowlands of the Wentloog Flats, criss-crossed with narrow Reens are what give St Brides Wentloog its Dutch moniker. There has been an Inn on this sight dating back to the 17th Century and the Inn at the Elm Tree, though built very much in the contemporary modal with stylish modern interiors, still maintains the traditional ethos of an old fashioned Inn, those of warm welcomes, friendly service, great food and comfortable rooms.
Each of the generously portioned bedrooms are thoughtfully laid out with every conceivable convenience. Modernly furnished to high standards, with some throwbacks to traditional country style; exposed beams and fabulous and spacious bathrooms with every modern luxury, some are even fitted with whirlpool baths. The hotel has excellent facilities for wheel chair users with a number the bedrooms situated on the ground floor and for that extra extravagance, a sensuous waterbed.
The Inn has also quickly established a reputation for culinary excellence with its small and intimate modernly appointed restaurant and refreshing menu that combines British with European influences, simplicity with tradition. Only the best seasonal local produce is used and the Inn specialises in local seafood, particularly shellfish, from lobster and oysters to cockles.
The Inn is an inviting place, set in an atmospheric location, indeed within a site of Special Scientific Interest with bird sanctuaries and fishing around the estuary. It’s close to the cities of Newport and Cardiff and numerous golf courses from championship to links.
