This dignified grey stoned Victorian country mansion enjoys an abundance of outstanding qualities, an enviable location with stunning marine and mountain views, fabulously restored and furnished rooms and warm hospitality. Penmaenuchaf was built in 1860 as the country retreat for wealthy Lancashire cotton magnate James Leigh Taylor, whose heraldic crest still stands above the entrance to the hall. Great effort has clearly been gone to in order to keep the interiors as close as possible to their original style and together with family photos doted around the public areas give Penmaenuchaf a personal homely feel. As you enter the main hall you are warmly greeted by a rich oak panelled fireplace with a blazing log fire. The morning room is delightfully uplifting with it light décor, sumptuous furnishings and stunning views across the Mawddach Estuary. Each of the bedrooms have been carefully designed and furnished with, character, flair and taste and are all very spacious and immaculately made up. Some suites boast fabulous whirlpool baths and wonderful views across the Estuary and all are equipped with all the modern home comforts and amenities one can expect. The elegant oak panelled dining room is one of Penmaenuchaf Hall’s highlights, providing a fitting setting for food of the highest quality, which in keeping with the traditional atmosphere, leans to traditional Welsh favourites and locally soured produce. An extensive selection of wines from various regions of the world is on hand to complement the cuisine. For pre or after dinner drinks the old fashioned Snug Bar has a selection of fine whiskies and brandies. Penmaenuchaf Hall is surrounded by 21 acres of delightful terraced gardens and woodland, with a sunken rose garden and ornamental pond adding to the tranquil and romantic charm of this wonderful hotel. |
