Set in the pretty coastal village of Aberdyfi, the Penhelig Arms combines the qualities of a small welcoming hotel, a friendly pub and a fine seafood restaurant.
A congenial atmosphere seems to emanate from within the whitewashed walls of Penhelig Arms. Perhaps it’s the cosy setting, being a traditional old inn many of the public areas, the reception, the private lounge and the bar are small, or perhaps it’s the friendly banter of the host and head barman that makes you feel you’ve been around Penhelig Arms for years.
The bedrooms are set within the main hotel or above and behind in more recent new accommodation. Most of the rooms within the hotel have views across the estuary or over the mountains and all are tastefully designed and well equipped. The more modern extension houses extremely spacious rooms with contemporary laid back décor and sizable bathrooms with heated flooring. Each of these rooms are fitted with fridges and have patios or balconies facing out across the Dyfi Estuary and overlooking the impressive flat waterfall feature beside Penhelig Arms.
The Penhelig Arms is a popular haunt for the locals, its hosts are long established in the area and their reputation as restaurateurs and publicans is equally ensconced. The pub has a real welcoming atmosphere, where the warmth from the log fire mixes with the genuine banter. The restaurant’s reputation is what the hotel is largely built upon; the menu offers a huge variety of seafood, simply cooked with one essential ingredient – the freshness of the fish.
It is this selection of simplicity and authenticity that makes the Penhelig Arms so popular in many ways and has won it a variety of awards.
