On the outside a traditional Victorian resort hotel on the inside a hip hotel, Bae Abermaw is unique to Wales and overlooks one of the most singular views of the Welsh Coastline. Abermaw is the Welsh name for Barmouth, and Bae is Bay. Bae Abermaw Hotel sits high in the mountain with panoramic views across Barmouth Bay, the Mawddach Estuary and the bustling Victorian beach resort of Barmouth. The hotel dates back to the 1890s when it was a Methodist retreat taking up three properties, which have long since been combined to form a dignified traditional seafront resort hotel. However the old fashioned exterior belies the contemporary interiors of Bae Abermaw. The décor is stylishly minimalist, throughout the hotel the walls are predominantly white, Conran furnishings adorn the lounge area where stylish rectangular sofas and coffee tables are set around an open log fire. This theme runs throughout the bedrooms where white is blended with beige and soft wood furnishings to create an uncluttered simple style. The rooms are fitted with spacious super modern American style bathrooms, with deep baths and power showers. Most rooms offer stunning views along the coastline and the wonderful sandy beaches and those to the rear offer rugged mountain scenery. In the basement the hotel bar boasts modern bar fittings and an upbeat ambience. The restaurant is light and airy, set around the slate stonewalls with wood panel flooring again in austere fashion overlooking the splendid view. The menu draws from fresh seasonal produce sourced locally. With its chic, urbane surroundings in a beautiful natural setting, Bae Abermaw provides a fresh outlook to Welsh hotels. |
