Lake District A place of beguiling beauty, the Lake District draws millions of visitors each year to marvel at its breathtaking scenery of graceful lakes and jagged fells.
The Lake District National Park spans an area of 880 square miles in the very heart of Cumbria. This stretch of land, around a quarter of which is owned and conserved by the National Trust, includes some of the most dramatic and unspoilt scenery in England. Whatever the changeable weather, from glistening sunshine to brooding clouds, the Lake District offers inspiring natural landscapes.
Here you will find England’s tallest peak, Scafell Pike at 977m and England’s longest lake, Lake Windermere , among a wealth of other sights of picturesque beauty. From the lakes of Derwent Water, Coniston Water, Thirlmere and Ullswater, mirroring the surrounding mountain scenery and tree lined shores to the imposing peaks and fells of Skiddaw, The Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn and the Langdale Pikes, the views are as unique and romantic as the place names.
