As would be expected the food is excellent and something of a gastronomic obsession at Gilpin Lodge; classically based cuisine yet thoroughly modern with an emphasis on the finest local produce; two simply mouth-watering sample mains are Roast Wing of Skate on a crushed pea puree with a white truffle veloute and Pan-fried tournedos of beef with wilted spinach, braised ox tail farcie and red wine jus.

The hotel's charming and beautifully arranged bedrooms are all named after local beauty spots. Each bedroom has its own charm and individual character, decorated with classic touches, sumptuous beds, lovely bathrooms and relaxing sitting areas with graceful views. Bedrooms differ in size and include some with four-poster beds, some are on split-levels, some have their own garden patios and some have lavish whirlpool baths. All rooms are fitted with the usual facilities and all the little comforts you come to expect and in each room is a specially made up information pack of carefully chosen walks around the lakes and fells.
