London is home to some of the most exclusive names in fashion and retail and shopping is high on the agenda of many visitors to Britain’s capital city. At Christmas time a trip to do some Christmas shopping in London is essential.
London boasts some of the most exclusive stores in the country, from Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Hamleys & Liberty’s, while Regent Street, Bond Street, Oxford Road and Piccadilly are home to some of the top names in fashion. Spectacular window displays and festive lights add to the Yuletide atmosphere of London and Christmas is one of the most enjoyable times to visit and shop in the city. Shop opening hours generally run from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday but at Christmas time many shops stay open until 8pm or 10pm and open during the day on Sunday.
If you come to London on 2nd December you can shop at the Oxford Road and Regent Street stores VIP – Very Important Pedestrian. As for this one day, the roads are closed to all traffic, making for a stress free shopping day when the stores roll out the red carpet with special offers and Christmas goodies galore.
Kids and collectors will love the annual Christmas show from the British Toymakers Guild at the OXO Tower from 16th Nov-3rd December and from 20th November to 13th January, the National Theatre is set to Dazzle all with stalls of handcrafted contemporary jewellery by designers from around the world. While art lovers and collectors will want to head to the Great Christmas Art Fair at Alexandra Palace with over 300 stands selling contemporary works from leading artists.
Along with the stores and fairs, London’s Markets at Spitalfields, Portabello Road and Camden buzz with festive spirit and at Christmas time London welcomes markets from around the world at Covent Garden, Greenwich Market, Kingston upon Thames and Lewisham and there is also a Christmas Fair and ice rink at the Natural History Museum.
