Christmas Panto Season
Panto has long been part of the traditional British Christmas and if you’re planning a family vacation this Christmas, then a night of Pantomime fun and frolics is a must – oh yes it is!!!
British Pantos are usually based on classic children’s stories and incorporate song, dance, comedy and audience participation with a sense of family fun. In the tradition, boys play girls and girls play boys with household entertainers performing the roles. The classic Panto characters consist of the ‘principle boy’ played by a young girl, the ‘panto dame’, played by an elder male (for example, Sir Ian McKellen as Widow Twanky!) the ‘pantomime horse’ and of course the pantomime villain – he’s behind you!!!
Panto season starts around the beginning of December and runs until the New Year. In London’s West End highlights this year include Peter Pan at the New Wimbledon staring Bobby Davro and Henry ‘the fonz’ Winkler, Cinderella at the Hackney Empire and Dick Wittington at the Barbican Theatre.
