Tour Itinerary

Christmas Eve (Thurs Dec 24th 2009)

Check-in and enjoy afternoon tea served in the castle lounges for thirsty travellers. After unpacking and settling into your bedchamber, we will all meet at dusk in the inner courtyard to hear the Kingswood Brass Band play carols around the Christmas tree, whilst we sup a glass of mulled wine  In the evening enjoy the welcoming “Black Tie” Champagne reception to be held in the “Old Castle Tudor Kitchen” followed by a five-course Gourmet Dinner and musical entertainment. Later, those inclined may take a short stroll to the Midnight Mass service at either of the two local churches (Church of England or Roman Catholic) and return to the Castle for mince pies and hot toddies in front of the fire. Then, retire to your bedchamber to await the sound of sleigh-bells!

Christmas Day (Fri Dec 25th 2009)

Enjoy a continental breakfast served in your room before meeting at 10.30am in front of the Christmas tree in the lounge to open Christmas gifts, followed by a talk on the history of Thornbury Castle, during which sherry will be served. A tradtional full Christmas “feast” with all the trimmings is served at lunch whilst afterwards you can enjoy a stroll of the castle grounds or take part in the entertainment by embarking on the Tudor Quest – a search for a mysterious lost jewel “the heart of Jasper Tudor” believed to be hidden in the Castle grounds. In the evening cocktails are served and an informal light supper, followed by Port tasting.

Boxing Day (Sat Dec 26th 2009)

After a “Hunter’s Breakfast” on Boxing Day morning you may take a short stroll into the village to see the departure of the Hunt. A light lunch is served following which there will be a falconry display in the Castle grounds when you can see these magnificent birds of prey in action. In the evening we will hold a Gala Dinner with modern-day mediaeval entertainer “Peterkin”– a superb jester and fire-eater!
