Our trains in Britain are very different from American Trains. In Britain the trains run extremely frequently on most of the network which makes it very easy and acceptable to just turn up and go with your BritRail pass. You don't need to book in advance

We recommend that you make travelling even easier by booking first class travel. If you want to travel in First Class, then a Pass is almost certain to be the best bet. Local British First Class fares tend to be expensive and are mostly designed for the corporate traveller. First Class BritRail Pass prices offer very affordable First Class travel. As a result Seat reservations in First Class are even less likely to be needed, as it is seldom crowded.

      First Class or Standard?
What is the difference between First and Standard Class in Britain?

      1. First Class has larger seats, more space both for you and your baggage.

      2. First Class carriages are usually less crowded and have picture windows.

      3. On many routes First Class offers extras, including free tea and coffee. Some routes even offer free snacks and newspapers. Certain long haul routes have table or buffet services. It is normally very good and comparable to airline 'first class'.

      4. The decor and ambience is very pleasant - frequently leaving one disappointed that the train journey is at an end.

      5. Most commuter routes radiating from the big cities have First Class accommodation. Here the benefit is space on busy rush hour trains.

      6. First Class is always at the London end of the platform (i.e. no long walk at the London terminal!)
