Bailiffscourt Hotel
Gothic arches, gnarled low beamed roofs and narrow passageways, Bailiffscourt is a marvel of medieval architecture, but it houses a deep secret within its timeless sandstone walls.

It’s hard to believe but Bailiffscourt was actually built in the 1930s as a wistful retreat for Lord and Lady Moyne who held a deep interest in the Middle Ages. A fantasy medieval manor, Bailiffscourt is painstaking in its authenticity using materials dating back to the 13th Century, much of it reclaimed from Abbeys and Monasteries left to ruin and building techniques from a bygone age.

Along the narrow corridors, and snug lounges, Bailiffscourt is filled with interesting features, gothic mullioned windows, solid oak arched doors, and low arch ways, authentic inglenook fireplaces, slate floors and a winding stone stair cases all, complimented expertly with hand crafted tapestries and period furnishings.

The bedrooms are located in the main hotel and in thatched cottages dotted around the pastureland. Those in the main hotel are medieval themed while those in the cottages are a mix of historic and contemporary but all are luxuriously furnished, many with four poster beds, low beamed roofs, log fires and classically arranged bathrooms and all have a full accompaniment of facilities.

The Tapestry restaurant is modernly appointed and offers fine dining with imaginative modern cuisine accompanied by an excellent selection of the finest wines. In the summer the rose –clad courtyard is opened up making for a lovely setting to enjoy lunches and afternoon teas.

Bailiffscourt also features a stylish health spa housed in an old style barn, offering over 50 different beauty treatments, luxurious swimming pool, steam room, sauna and gymnasium as well as a sumptuous outdoor Californian hot tub. Also in the grounds you’ll find tennis courts and croquet lawns and the Hotel is just a 200-yard romantic stroll from the beach.

A fantastic place for would be Knights and Damsels to live out a medieval fantasy, Bailiffscourt is ideally located for exploring the south coast and the historic towns of Battle, Rye and Arundel .
